Summary / Abstract (Note)The purpose of this paper is to present the elements of an adequate theory of unemployment, in the sense that the theory must account for the countercyclical phenomenon of layoffs and the pro-cyclical phenomenon of quits. The existing theories of unemployment tend to be polarized in two extremes.
