Summary / Abstract (Note)Food prices play an important role in the well-being of the poor. Poor consumers spend a large budget share on food. Thus, the level of food prices is an important determinant of their purchasing power. The purposes of this paper are to highlight some of the most important relationships between food prices and the well-being of the poor and to discuss the implications of various policy instruments.
