Summary/Abstract

As the recession is getting deepar and deeper with unemployment rates climbing to the 1930's levels, politicians & union leaders are looking for other means than fiscal and monetary policies to reduce unemployment. An increasing number are arguing that a shorter work day will be more efficient remedy against unemployment than the traditional policies. For various reasons economists have been reluctant to support this proposal.
