Summary/Abstract |
In this study, based on an intensive survey of a typical rice village in the province of Laguna, we attempt to identify a wide specturm of land tenure arrangements actually operating in the rice-growing area of the Philippines. Further, we try to analyze the process of evolution in the land tenure system in response to demographic and technological changes.

Summary/Abstract |
This paper is concerned with the rice trade policy, especially the import policy of the Philippines which has been the second largest importer of rice in Southeast Asia, next only to Indonesia. The purpose of this study is not to reassess rice policies, but rather to provide a better understanding of how rice trade policy has operated in the past.

Summary/Abstract |
This paper presents a methodology for explicitly estimating the effect of environmental variability on rice yields. The yield distributions derived from environmental variability are utilized in a model of farmer decision-making in order to estimate the potential constraining effect of risk on the level of inputs used.

Summary/Abstract |
The principal focus of much of the risk and uncertainty literature in agriculture is on the behavior of farm producers in the light of the variability of natural and market events. This paper, in contrast, is concerned with the organization, operation and productivity of a crop improvement system in light of environmental variability.

Summary/Abstract |
Dafaults on noncollateral rice loans to small-scale farmers in the Philippines have been a problem since the government began giving these type of loans. This study attempts to test if institutional credit does induce farmers to use additional inputs (an proportion) and if the increase in inputs causes farmers to realize increased production and income.

Summary/Abstract |
The purpose of this paper is: (a) to observe the changes in output, area and yield of the major food grains - rice, wheat and corn - over the past two decades (b) to measure for rice the contribution of increased fertilizer use and irrigation development to output growth (c) to interpret the experience of the past two decades in terms ot its significance for sources of output growth in the decade ahead.

Summary/Abstract |
This paper is concerned with the changes in labor utilization due to the introduction of modern rice technology. We will construct a simple graphic model of factors influencing labor utilization in rice prodcution. Next, we will compare labor utilization in different rice growing areas in Asia, but our major focus will be on Philippines.

Summary/Abstract |
In this paper, we attempt to understand the rice situation in the region and prospects for its future. The paper has three parts: the first section discusses the current level of food consumption in the region; the second section examines the sources of growth of rice production; the third section discusses a model we have used for projecting future growth in rice output
