Summary/Abstract In this study, based on an intensive survey of a typical rice village in the province of Laguna, we attempt to identify a wide specturm of land tenure arrangements actually operating in the rice-growing area of the Philippines. Further, we try to analyze the process of evolution in the land tenure system in response to demographic and technological changes.

The yield distributions derived from environmental variability are utilized in a model of farmer decision-making in order to estimate the potential constraining effect of risk on the level of inputs used.

Summary/Abstract Dafaults on noncollateral rice loans to small-scale farmers in the Philippines have been a problem since the government began giving these type of loans. This study attempts to test if institutional credit does induce farmers to use additional inputs (an proportion) and if the increase in inputs causes farmers to realize increased production and income.
