Summary/Abstract This paper uses the 1983 Census of Israel to analyze for adult male immigrants the determinants of Hebrew speaking skills and the effects of Hebrew fluency on their labor market earnings. The analysis reveals that earnings increase monotonically with the ability to speak Hebrew.
