Summary/Abstract The Multi-divisional firm is a major organizational innovation, credited by some as having been the main engine of growth since the second world war. Let us first clarify what we mean by the M-Form: it is a firm whose main sub-units are product divisions (rather than the previously customary functional department), which are given very wide discretion in the operations.
