Summary/Abstract Institutional regulations by way of licensing and capacity restrictions have often been considered as barriers to competition in Indian Industry. In this paper, I attempto to analyse the extent of barriers to entry in Indian manufacturing by empirically quantifying the height of these barriers.

Summary/Abstract In this paper we analyse the trends in total and partial factor productivites and capital intensity in the organised and unorganised manufacturing sectors in India and Gujarat over the period 1978 to 1995, using data from the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) and National Sample Survey, follow-up surveys on the Unorganised Manufacturing Sector.
