This paper utilizes an approach developed earlier (Monetary policy and the balance of payments in Brazil and Chile, Working Paper No. 5, Revised, July 1975) in a study of Brazil and Chile in order to estimate 'offset' and 'seterilization' coefficients for monetary policy in Germany, Japan, United Kingdom, and United States.
