Summary/Abstract

This paper proposes a method of constructing a surrogate for the Net Stock of "Anything" that can depreciate, dissipate or become obsolete, when the only available information is a series on gross additions to the stock, e.g. a gross investment series, a series on new purchases of the given durable goods, etc.

Summary/Abstract

For the estimation of a regression model with first order autocorrelation in the disturbance terms, the ordinary least squares estimator has been condemned, in general, as inferior to other contestants in various Monte Carlo Studies. This study provides a practical guide in the choice of estimators when an independent variable contains a trend.
