The tax system in Andhra Pradesh, over the years, has become highly complex. The Chelliah Committee in its interim report had recommended the abolition of the turnover tax and a movement towards a VAT system. This study attempts to examine the scope for introduction of VAT in place of the sales tax in Andhra Pradesh.
